A Clinical Analysis of Emergency Surgical Patient




Abstract
The roles of the emergency room are recently further emphasized, because the emergency patients have been increased in the traffic volumes and in the population. Also they are usually seriously ill, requiring a prompt and adequate treatment.
We reviewed the emergency surgical patients with the emergency room charts of our hospital during the period from August 1st 1973 to July 30th 1984.
The total number of surgical patients visited emergency room was 6,760 cases.
The results were summarized as follows:
1) The most common group of age was in 3 rd decade.
2) The most predominant monthly distribution was September (10.4%), and the least was February(5.3%).
3) The most frequent time of patient visited to E.R. was between 4 : 00 P.M. and 8 : 00 P. M.
4) The most frequent duration of treatment at E.R. was within 1 hour. (48.8%)
5) The over-all mortality rate including death on arrival was 0.69%.
6) Trauma was occupied 32.7% in all of the patients.
7) The admission rate of Department of General Surgery of surgical patient visited through E.R. was 35.9%.
